Guru, a founding member of the rap group Gang Starr, underwent successful surgery and is recovering, according to former partner DJ Premier, though he's still under a medically induced coma.

"Good news: #guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love," Premier posted Tuesday.

Later he posted this Tweet: "#Guru still in a med induced coma, he's breathing with machine help. And please reporters, don't copy without care. #Pray."

The 43-year-old Guru suffered a heart attack and fell into the coma after going into cardiac arrest over the weekend.

DJ Premier said in a radio interview that Guru was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday.

Guru, who was born Keith Elam, rose to fame as the vocal half of Gang Starr, the duo he formed with DJ Premier.

In 1993 he released a solo album, “Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1” which was billed as “an experimental fusion of hip-hop and jazz.” The album became the first in a series of four records.
