Not only is Megan Fenno the other half of “One Chic Mother to Another” on Holly Morgan’s mid-morning show, but she also has some serious design chops. A native of Cincinnati’s West Side, Megan graduated with a degree in fashion and accessory design from Savannah College of Art & Design and was even a finalist to appear on Project Runway! She’d love to meet Tim Gunn again – this time for coffee and the scoop on all the behind-the-scenes drama.

Despite her stylish creds, Megan remembers plenty of fashion blunders from her youth: “Oversized sweatshirts paired with stirrup leggings…and permed bangs. Yikes!”

When she’s not on air with Holly, Megan is the Lifestyle Editor at cincysavers.com and the owner of online accessories boutique FENNOfashion.com. She married her high-school sweetheart and their young son, 80-pound German Shepherd and three-pound curly-furred cat keep her pretty busy, too.

New Year’s Fashion: Do’s and Don’ts

Ready to ring in the New Year?
Here are a few “Do’s and Don’ts” for the New Year’s fashionista in you:

Do: Have fun with your nails.

There are so many different fun glitter polishes and nail art pens, that you can really make your nails dazzle. On a budget? Dig to the bottom of your nail polish box and find that polish you’ve used only once for an occasion such as Halloween. Match the color to your shoes, or use a toothpick to write on your nails! (Think about HAPPY 2012- that’d be cute!)

Do: Amp up your your look.

New Year’s is the perfect opportunity to go all out, which means, kick that outfit up a notch. Most women will likely opt for jeans and a cute top. This is your chance to stand out by wearing a dress instead.

Mini knit dresses paired with boots can be a really cute look, and for the most part, comfortable!

Perhaps you are going someplace that you really want to sparkle? Grab that glitzy dress off the rack off your favorite “I probably am too old to shop at this store” and pair it with some heels and a one time use Happy 2012 plastic hat or crown.

Do: Bargain Shop!

There are so many amazing after Christmas sales taking place that it would be silly to pay full price for something. I usually go to the mall a few days before the new year and find just what I am looking for.

Already cleaned out your checking account on Christmas? Have a quick closet swap with your girlfriends and borrow a few items from their closets! Borrowing a few things from friends can give you that “new outfit” feeling without spending a dime! Oh yes, and don’t forget about accessories.

Do: Dress Warmly.

We live in Cincinnati, not Key West. If you do plan on wearing a dress, wear a cute pair of tights underneath. Scarfs can really dress up an outfit, especially sequinned ones. Also, opt for close toed heels over strapy stilettos. If you will be leaving your house at any point in the evening to go out make sure to grab a warm coat. Throw a festive brooch or a colorful scarf around it to jazz it up. You don’t want to start your New Year off with using a sick day to combat a cold!

Don’t: Over do the Sparkles

Avoid looking like the NYE Ball by over-doing the sparkles. Try to keep the glitter to one key item, whether it be a glitzy dress as the focal point or flashy shoes. Then keep the rest of your outfit clean and simple.

Don’t: Dress Inappropriately

Your look says a lot about you, so make sure you look well put-together and somewhat dressy. Bearing too much clevage or wearing a dress a few sizes to small ( I mean, we did just get through Christmas, it’s okay if you gained a few pounds), doesn’t always look appealing.

Yes, I may have a few more “Do’s” than “Don’ts” here but the over all idea is to dress appropriately, wear something that goes along with your style, don’t look like a disco ball and all while saving a few bucks. Lastly, make sure to stay safe and be careful!
