Not only is Megan Fenno the other half of “One Chic Mother to Another” on Holly Morgan’s mid-morning show, but she also has some serious design chops. A native of Cincinnati’s West Side, Megan graduated with a degree in fashion and accessory design from Savannah College of Art & Design and was even a finalist to appear on Project Runway! She’d love to meet Tim Gunn again – this time for coffee and the scoop on all the behind-the-scenes drama.

Despite her stylish creds, Megan remembers plenty of fashion blunders from her youth: “Oversized sweatshirts paired with stirrup leggings…and permed bangs. Yikes!”

When she’s not on air with Holly, Megan is the Lifestyle Editor at cincysavers.com and the owner of online accessories boutique FENNOfashion.com. She married her high-school sweetheart and their young son, 80-pound German Shepherd and three-pound curly-furred cat keep her pretty busy, too.

Ten Creative & Easy Ways to Display Your Jewelry

While jewelry boxes are wonderful, they rarely are large enough to really keep everything in it’s own place, untangled, and visible. Most of us don’t think to have our jewelry out on display or even creatively displayed… but with these ideas, you can let your creativity, and jewelry, shine! Organizing your accessories can also allow you to rediscover pieces that were once “out of sight, out of mind”.

Each ring, necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings gets its own cubby when you use an ice-cube tray to organize your baubles. Trays can be stacked in a drawer for a multi-tier alternative jewelry box. [Resource]

Some baubles are just too pretty to put away at the end of the day. But with a jewelry holder and display case made from a basic shadow box, you’ll have less clutter, more chances to admire your favorite pieces, and everything within reach.

All you need to add to the inside of the box are hooks; the hardware for hanging the box is already mounted on the back.

Create a Jewelry Drawer

Designate one of your dresser drawers for just your jewels. Find interesting cups and saucers from a thrift shop to create a unique yet beautiful way to stay organized.

Be on the look out for unique displays

Places such as TJ Maxx and Marshall’s have some really reasonably priced, unique jewelry displays. The necklace shadow box case pictured above I purchased for $24.99 at TJ Maxx.

Similar to using icecube trays, think outside the box and get creative. Use towel rods to hold everything from earrings to bangles. [Image Source]

Jewelry Frames

Most thrift stores have a few picture frames lying around which would could be made into the perfect jewelry display. Take the glass and backing out and replace it with screen or rows of ribbon.

Speaking of frames, here is another idea that I use to display the jewelry I design at boutiques, like Lou Lou’s on the west side of Cincinnati. My husband made these displays for me, but you just take apart a picture frame, spray paint it white, add small pieces of wood to the back and add your desired style and amount of hooks.

Use Twigs & Branches

Next time you step outside, be on the look out for some fallen branches that could be easily turned into your newest jewelry holder.

Here is a branch I found in my backyard that I turned into a necklace organizer and display.  The knobs were found at Hobby Lobby for around $2 – $4 each. I applied a small amount of white spray paint to the branch before drilling holes for the knobs. Using jewelry wire, I wrapped it around the branch several times on either side, creating a way to hang my newly-created necklace holder.

Here is another spin on creating jewelry organizers using twigs. [Click here to learn how to create your own Twig Jewelry Display]

The display above is super easy to create. Trim the branches to your desired size followed by mounting them into a vase or glassware.  You could even spray paint the branches to give your new jewelry display a fun new look. [Image Source + Tutorial]
