One Direction are “grimy characters”, says Liam Payne.
The fab five covered Wheatus’ song Teenage Dirtbag during their Take Me Home tour. Liam has joked the track was closer to home than many might realize.
“We’re just teenage lads having… while we’re not saying we’re dirtbags, but we’re grimy characters,” he explained to MTV News. “It suited us well.”
The performances have been captured on film in the group’s new movie One Direction: This Is Us, directed by Morgan Spurlock.
In one concert scene, the boys are re-imagined as comic book superheroes singing the classic Wheatus hit.
Harry Styles explained how the look came about.
“I think basically what happened was on our tour screens, it was all like comic book [looking] in the back. Someone decided to put it in, and it stayed,” he said.
None of the lads’ US tour made it into the documentary as it didn’t fit in with the schedule.
The boys also let MTV in on what music they listen to when they’re alone. Harry is a Travis man with Flowers in the Window his top track, while Liam is into R&B playing Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home.
The boys have been in London filming, and were spotted yesterday shooting their latest music video in the British sunshine.
Later that evening Liam headed for a night out in the city with his new girlfriend Sophia Smith to celebrate his 20th birthday.
