Laura Carmichael acted like a “total fan” when she met Christopher Kane.
The actress is Lady Edith Crawley in British TV show Downton Abbey and is thrilled that the role has meant she is now asked to attend fashion shows. She loves learning about trends and cites Scottish star Christopher as one of her biggest obsessions.
“Christopher Kane is a good friend of mine. I met him at an InStyle BAFTA party a few years ago and, like a total fan, told him how much I love his work. Luckily he really likes Downton too, so we’ve been friends ever since,” she giggled to British magazine InStyle.
Laura’s own style is quite relaxed and far removed from the smart pieces her character usually dons. Her favorite store is Cos, which she claims helps her “thrown-together” look seem more fashion forward.
The actress’ love of clothes is engrained in her, with her female relatives all style queens too.
“My two grandmothers lived in completely different circumstances but were both very stylish. My granny could afford to buy any dress she wanted, while my nana couldn’t afford much at all. They were so glamorous though – everyone in the ‘40s was obsessed with fashion,” she said.
The star also enjoyed considering what her character would wear if she was around now, rather than from a show set in the first decades of the 1900s.
“If Lady Edith was around today she’d wear head-to-toe Chanel. She’s got the money, we can dream big! Her style is classic but she has a rebellious streak, so Chanel is perfect,” she mused.
