Winona Ryder has sparked rumors she’s reprising her role in Beetlejuice 2.
Collider reports director Tim Burton recently entered talks to make the sequel to his 1988 cult classic his next project after commissioning a script by screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith.
Speaking about the project to Bada*s Digest, Winona strongly hinted she would be interested in reprising her role as angst-ridden teenager Lydia Deetz.
“I’m kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sounds like it might be happening,” she said, confirming some rumors about the script.
“It’s not a remake, it’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”
Winona did say there was one caveat to her return. Both Tim and Michael Keaton, who famously played the ghoulish title character, must both be on board.
“I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael. Because those guys, I love,” she said.
According to Collider, it looks as though Michael is on board.
The outlet reports if production goes well on his most recent project, Big Eyes, Beetlejuice 2 could begin filming could begin as early as next year.
Winona will next be seen in Gary Fleder action crime thriller Homefront. The feature, co-starring James Franco, Jason Statham and Kate Bosworth is scheduled for US release later this month.
She’s currently filming TV movie Turks & Caicos, co-starring Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Christopher Walken.
