New Year, new brows
Stuck in a make-up rut? If you want to overhaul your beauty regime, why not start with your eyebrows.
After all, if ever there were a moment to embrace the power brow, it is now.
Thanks to the likes of Cara Delevingne and Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge, full arches have never been more popular, with salons reporting a 200 per cent spike in interest for semi-permanent brow-boosting treatments during 2013.
But if your budget doesn’t stretch to salon prices, what’s the best approach for creating wow brows?
“Stencils are ideal for creating gorgeously defined eyebrows,” says celebrity make-up artist Elizabeth Rita.
“They’re brilliant as they give you a shape to work with. It takes the stress out of the whole thing.”
Elizabeth insists that eyebrows are one of the most important features of the face, yet they often end up being the most neglected.
“Well-shaped brows can really balance your features, frame your face and open up your eyes.
“Lots of brands have great stencil sets. I like Chelsea Beautique semi-permanent kit, which comes with three different shaped stencils,”’ she adds.
So, what is the best way to choose an eyebrow shape? Elizabeth says it’s important to think about your face shape.
Here are some tips to bear in mind:
Generally speaking, those with a square face shape should go for thicker brows.
Try to align the peak of the brow with the widest angle of the jaw to balance out the strong jaw line.
If you have a round face, try an arched eyebrow to create a more oval look. The high peak opens the eyes vertically to elongate the face.
Meanwhile, flat, straight eyebrows with a low arch are best for those with longer faces.
If you have a heart-shaped face, rounded brows are perfect for giving a balanced look.
