Jaume Collet-Serra directed the feature, which raked in more than $30 million in its first days in theatres, according to early estimates.
Drama Son of God followed with a debut in second place, raking in $26.5 million.
Christopher Spencer directed the film, which tells his interpretation of the life story of Jesus from his birth to his resurrection.
The LEGO Movie slipped from one to three with over $21 million.
The animated adventure, featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Channing Tatum, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Jonah Hill, now boasts a four-week worldwide total of over $301.8 million.
George Clooney’s The Monuments Men jumped from five to four with $5 million.
The actor directed and stars in the feature, about a team of people tasked with recovering artwork stolen by the Nazis. Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett and John Goodman also feature in the project.
Director McG’s crime drama 3 Days to Kill slipped from two to five with $4.9 million.
Kevin Costner, Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard and Connie Nielsen star in the feature, about a dying Secret Service agent trying to patch up his relationship with his estranged daughter.
