Emma Stone thinks Andrew Garfield is cooler than Spider-Man.
The actress plays the superhero’s love interest Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, while Andrew takes on the role of the protagonist. In real life they are also a couple, but Emma would never swap her boyfriend for his onscreen alter ego.
“I don’t think so,” she admitted to German magazine Bravo when asked if she thinks Spider-Man would make a good partner. “He’s always staring death in the eye. I think Andrew is cooler. He’s one of the most important people in my life!”
Emma, 25, might not be so keen on the superhero, but for Andrew it’s the perfect role. The 30-year-old star loves making the most of what the films have done for him.
“I enjoy the attention the character gets!” he admitted. “During a break in filming I once wandered over to a group of kids nearby who were playing basketball. They couldn’t get over the fact that I was shooting hoops with them. It was brilliant!”
Andrew and Emma are notoriously private about their relationship and often dodge questions inquiring about them as a couple. Rather than get frustrated when fans follow him, the actor tries to pay them some attention.
“Instead of getting mad, I’ve started talking to them. From person to person. That helps!” he explained.
It’s lucky the star has found a way to cope with fame, as it put him off the part initially.
“My main concerns about playing Spider-Man were about the lack of anonymity and being tied to a role for the rest of my life, because I’m really just interested in being an actor who can disappear into the story. I find movie stars distracting on screen,” he previously said.
