Ryan Reynolds was a no-show at his films after party in Cannes, according to reports.
The actors latest film The Captive made its debut at the French film festival over the weekend. But after a less than impressive screening for film critics, the Canadian decided to skip the movies after party.
“[Ryan opted for a] low-key late-night snack,” a source told Us Weekly.
The 37-year-old was accompanied by his wife Blake Lively, who had earlier stunned on the red carpet for the film in a Gucci strapless gown. The couple were spotted at the Hotel Martinez terrace restaurant after midnight while the rest of the films cast attended the after party.
“Ryan definitely seemed a little on edge,” the source continued. “[I] wouldn’t be surprised if he skipped out on his party because the film is getting terrible reviews.”
According to insiders at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie was “greeted with a smattering of boos”.
It left The Proposal actor “preoccupied with his cell phone”, but his wife did her best to take his mind off his woes.
“[It] looked like Blake was trying to cheer him up a few times … she rubbed his arm like she was consoling him and kept whispering in his ear,” the source added. “At one point, Ryan smiled … and leaned into her for a kiss on the lips.”
The thriller also stars Rosario Dawson and Scott Speedman but Variety reviewed it as “a ludicrous abduction thriller that finds a once-great filmmaker [Atom Egoyan] slipping into previously unentered realms of self-parody.”
