Not all artists love the Grammys

"We just came to relax. We just wanted to watch the show. I don't know what this [award] is. I don't think this means anything." --Eddie Vedder, biting the hand that awards him during Pearl Jam's acceptance speech in 1996 for Best Hard Rock Performance

"A 50-year-old white man shouldn't decide whether we are relevant or not." --Pete Wentz, writing online after Fall Out Boy were overlooked for an award in 2008 (they also lost Best New Artist to John Legend in 2006)

"Does it really matter to us? No. Absolutely not." --Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert, on the group's 2010 Best New Artist nomination

"I think [Amy Winehouse] has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammys giving her those nods." --Natalie Cole, a former substance abuser herself, disapproving of Winehouse's winning spree in 2008 amidst a "stupor of drugs"

Rihanna excited about tonight

(us) Rihanna says she won't be bringing baseball player Matt Kemp to Sunday's Grammys. "I'm going to the Grammys alone, as always!" she said Thursday. "Even when I was in a relationship, I always have gone alone."

She then blurted out, "I'm still single, if that's what you really want to ask!"

What about those photos of her and Kemp, 25, frolicking in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico? The singer, 21, played coy. "It was a blast!" she said of the trip.

As for the Grammys, she said she is "excited." She is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay-Z and Kanye West for the hit "Run This Town."

"This was actually the first piece of music we did since the last Grammys," she said. "It's exciting that it's nominated." Added Rihanna, "We cannot wait. We hope we bring home the bacon, but if not, it's great that it was nominated."

Rihanna's appearance at the Feb. 8, 2009 Grammy Awards was cancelled last-minute, following a violent incident with then-boyfriend Chris Brown. Brown later pleaded guilty to felony assault, and was sentenced to five years of probation.

John Legend predicts tonight's Grammy winners

(mtv) The oddsmakers have spoken, and on both sides of the Atlantic, Taylor Swift seems to be the favorite to win big at the 2010 Grammys on Sunday night. To triumph, though, she'll have to beat fellow fierce ladies Beyoncé and Lady Gaga in three top categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Six-time Grammy winner John Legend, who's up for another statue this year, is a big supporter of all three artists, but he has a feeling the youngest is going to walk away with the most awards.

"There are a lot of country fans," he told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival. "Never underestimate the country fans. And Taylor Swift had a great year.

"I'm sure Kanye would have something to say about it," he joked, referencing the rapper's notorious MTV Video Music Awards run-in with Swift.

Still, Legend was quick to give props to Swift's competitors — "Lady Gaga is great, and Beyoncé is supreme," he said — and he thinks it will ultimately "depend on what people's tastes are, what music they feel."

Legend is returning to the Grammys not only because he's nominated (in the Best Male Pop Vocal category against Jason Mraz, Maxwell and others), but also because he's presenting. Rihanna, too, is returning to the Grammys a year after she had to cancel her appearance when then-boyfriend Chris Brown assaulted her the night before the show, and Legend lent his support to Rihanna.

"I think 'Run This Town' is a great record," he said of the single she recorded with Jay-Z and Kanye. "I think Jay's album is a great album. I wish Rihanna the best. I think she's very talented. She's a sweetheart. She had a rough year, and you just wish her the best and you hope everything goes well for her."
