Here's what's going on with the Bengals in advance of Saturday's wild-card playoff showdown with the Jets at Paul Brown Stadium:
• The Bengals braved the snow and cold for an hour of practice Thursday on the field at Paul Brown Stadium.
The Bengals don't have a covered field - they're the most northern NFL team without one - and had to rearrange their practice schedule to accommodate the conditions. They practiced indoors in Mason on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Jets practiced indoors on Thursday.
"Playing in New York, (cold) is something we play in all the time when it comes to November and December," Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said in a conference call this week. "That's how you want to be made. If you want to win games, you've got to win in the cold. That's the big thing about our team. This past December, we won a lot of games, and we won one in January, too."
• New York Jets linebacker David Harris - the top tackler on the league's No. 1 rated defense - practiced for the first time this week on Thursday but said he was "very limited" after missing two days of workouts while recovering from a sprained right ankle.
Harris was at his usual inside linebacker spot in early drills Thursday and wasn't noticeably hobbled. Harris said his ankle felt "kind of stiff," but he hopes to play in Saturday's AFC wild-card playoff game at Cincinnati.
• Jets head coach Rex Ryan said earlier this week his team should not only be favored to beat the Cincinnati Bengals, but to win the Super Bowl.
During his daily news conference Wednesday, Ryan was asked what his reaction was to being the team with the longest odds – currently at 50-1 – to win the championship.
“I wasn't aware of that,” he said, “but to me, we should be favorites, so that's fine.”
Ryan was then asked to clarify if he meant the Jets should be favored to beat the Bengals on Saturday in Cincinnati.
“I mean in the whole tournament,” he said. “You know the way that I feel.
“I think we have the best defense, I know we do,” Ryan said. “I know we have the best rushing attack. Those are two huge factors in our favor. With a couple of exceptions on our staff, myself probably, I think we have a great coaching staff.”
Pretty good preview piece here from the Washington Post.
