We got word Friday afternoon that Poison frontman & reality-star, Bret Michaels, had suffered a massive hemorrhage near his brain stem. We talked to his longtime friend "Big John," who confirmed that Bret was in the ICU, in critical condition, at an undisclosed location.
Bret had an emergency appendectomy on April 13, and doctors say the subarachnoid hemorrhage stems from his recovery from that surgery. Just before his hospitalization, Michaels wrote on his blog that he still wasn't felling well. "I'm not 100% yet ... I have to get my blood sugar back in order, because it's been all over the place because every day I've been real active and you're not supposed to move around yet."
According to Popeater.com, Bret's friends are cautiously optimistic that he will recover, but believe it will forever change his life. "Bret is a fighter and is going to win this battle. But after you stare death in the face, it changes you forever and this is going to change Bret. "When all this is complete, you can bet Bret will say goodbye to the rock star lifestyle and focus on what means the most to him -- being a great dad." "This has scared the hell out of all of us and none of us will ever be the same," Bret's friend explains. "No matter how rich or famous you are, this makes it clear that we are all human."
Bret remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance. Doctors are still trying to locate the cause of the bleed.
