I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for fun and free things to do over the summer with my family. Sure, there's swimming and the water parks, but I also want activities that give my two boys' brains a workout. So, I was excited to find out that as part of their summer reading program, The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has hundreds of fun and free events going on at all of the 41 branch locations through the summer. The summer reading program, called Team Read, runs through July 31.
The Team Read summer sampler can be found here. But a few highlights include:
•Members of the Cincinnati Kings will be on hand at various branch locations throughout the summer.
•Musician and storyteller Zak Morgan will offer up his fun and energetic storytelling program three times. Both kids and adults love the Grammy-nominated performer’s zany show that focuses on reading and books.
•Harry Potter Week is scheduled for July 10-16 at all locations. There will be Harry-themed cooking classes, magic programs, treats and more.
•Yoga, Zumba and various other craft programs for kids of all ages!
And if you haven’t already done so, you can register for Team Read while you are at the library or you can register online. The Library is giving away 123 NOOK Colors to the top kid, teen and adult reader at each branch. Readers can also win four tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game or a family four-pack of tickets to Coney Island.
The program is easy: once registered, you just log books or minutes read. The more books you read along the way the more prizes you win.
The program is for everyone – preschoolers, kids, teens and adults. You don’t have to have a library card nor do you need to be a Hamilton County resident to register.
Feel free to share the book you are reading here or join the Twitter conversation by using #whatimreading in your tweets this week.
