In an interview with MTV News, Adam Lambert said he didn't know he was going to grab keyboardist Tommy Ratliff and plant a full-mouth kiss on him during his performance at Sunday's American Music Awards.

"During rehearsal, I grab him by the hair and kind of just looked at him," he said in the interview. "He's straight. He just, I guess, didn't mind getting kissed in the name of entertainment on stage."

As for simulating oral sex on stage, Lambert said, "That wasn't in the original choreography. I was supposed to look at him, and I just grabbed him. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think he would have been cool with it. ... It might look real forceful, but we all respect each other and were doing it in the name of the show."

"This is one song, one production number..." he added. "I hope people don't put me in a box and say, 'Oh, he's nasty and he's going to be that way all the time!' It was one performance."
