Christmas Spirit-4330-3-X2-X2“Carol”, directed by Todd Haynes and starring Cate Blanchet and Rooney Mara
CINCINNATI (December 3, 2013) – The Greater Cincinnati Film Commission is thrilled to announce a major motion picture shooting in Cincinnati, spring, and 2014. “Carol”, starring Cate Blanchet and Rooney Mara, directed by Todd Haynes and produced by industry veterans, Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley of Number 9 Films, alongside co-producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films, will shoot entirely in Greater Cincinnati.

Karlsen said: “We are delighted to have chosen Cincinnati as our location
. Stephen and I made a film here 20 years ago and found the city and its people incredibly welcoming and helpful. The local crew and talent were first rate. Our experience so far on “Carol” has been similarly positive. The city offers excellent creative choices for us and the tax incentive has been instrumental in enabling us to get the green light on the film. We are really looking forward to the start of production in the New Year and enjoying all that Cincinnati has to offer while we are here.”
Production offices open the first of the year and remain open likely until the end of May. The Film Commission is preparing by scouting locations, introducing local crew and resources, and helping identify everything “Cincinnati” to support this fantastic production.

“We are ecstatic to host such an extraordinary project,” said Kristen Schlotman, Executive Director of the Greater Cincinnati Film Commission. “This is the largest motion picture to shoot in our area since the incentive established and will be one of Hollywood’s highest profile films produced next year.”

Carol is co-developed and co-financed by Film4. Christine Vachon’s Killer Films will co-produce.
HanWay Films handle international sales, which include The Weinstein Company in the US, eOne in Canada, StudioCanal in UK, Transmission in Australia and TF1 in France.

“Carol” will create hundreds of jobs and have a significant economic impact in our area. The screenplay by Phyllis Nagy was adapted from the novel by Patricia Highsmith. “Carol” is a love story about pursuit, betrayal and passion that follows the burgeoning relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York.
