March 18, 2010…a taste of my week

In all honesty, I’m wiped. I seem to do a whole lotta thinking when I take vacations. My brain is a little fried and I’m looking forward to all of it settling so I can make a ton of sense of all I’ve learned this week. No clue how long it will all take to process. Good news from home…Jakob ... Read More »

March 14, 2010…I’m back….

I’m in Sheffield, Mass. at the Option Institute, home of the Autism Treatment Center of America and the Son-Rise Program. This is my 5th week here and just making the drive from Harford felt like I was coming home. I’ll be taking the Power Dialogues Program this week…good stuff. It’s all about uncovering limiting beliefs that can keep me from ... Read More »

Ouch My Boo Boo…

He bit his inner lip…and anytime he has an “ouch my boo boo”, he insists on a band aid…couldn’t resist the photo op. Wish I had pictures of when he bit his tongue…that was classic. Read More »

March 8, 2010…battle on the corner

I’ve really been suffering from cabin fever this winter. Really bad. Soooo craving a little sunshine in my life. And I’m sure Jakob has been feeling the same way. Even as a baby, he loved being outside. So with it getting all the way into the upper 40’s on Saturday, I figured going for a short walk would be a ... Read More »

March 2, 2010…the kickoff speech

We had our Kickoff Luncheon for Walk Now for Autism Speaks Cincinnati over the weekend. Great friends and great food for a great cause at Great Wolf Lodge. Really looking forward to the walk on May 22 at Coney Island. Below is a re-cap of last year’s walk and the speech I gave at the luncheon… I do my share ... Read More »

February 24, 2010…Cryin on the Closet Floor…

We’re in the middle of Jakob’s 4th run at the Sensory Learning Program (link below for details). Part of the program requires us sitting in a small dark room looking at a light for 20 minutes, two times a day. Usually, Jakob just sits beside me. Sometimes we sing but for the most part we just hang. Last night, he ... Read More »

February 22, 2010…5 years

This is him saying “Jakob is smart”. :>> It was 5 years ago this month we received the diagnosis. 5 years ago this month, we began a journey into a world that is still a mystery in so many ways. But in so many ways, we’ve also figured it out. I know I haven’t written anywhere near as much as ... Read More »

February 12, 2010…Sickly…

Little Man is experiencing the flu…I think. Impossible to say for sure since he can’t really describe wht he’s feeling but the syptoms are all there. Tons of fun. He is able though, to describe all sorts of things about himself. He’s on a kick right now of looking in the mirror and saying “Jakob is big, Jakob is smart, ... Read More »

September 14, 2009…no 8.

He’s 8. I’m 40. Sheez. We’re old. No big-to-do for his birthday other than a week’s worth of present opening and singing Happy Birthday. He was pretty funny when we’d tell him he was 8 and he’d say, “no 8, 5”. I’d be cool with that. If he could be 5 again, I’d do a few things differently. I definitely ... Read More »

August 30, 2009…almost 8

Summer is over…for the most part. All the neighborhood kids are back in school and the pool is only open on the weekend. Time to get back to business. Admittedly, we took it kind of easy this summer and I didn’t run the Son-Rise Program that I would have liked to have run. I would love to have had Jakob ... Read More »
