Have you heard of the website, ModelMyDiet.com? You can get a 3-D model of yourself at your current weight and then desired weight– to see the difference and perhaps renew your  motivation to workout and eat healthy! Or you can do the opposite and see what you’d look like heavier to keep yourself motivated. Either way, it’s a fun site to use and completely free!

To make the model more realistic, you can change everything from her hair color and style, nose and lip shape and her natural body shape. In addition, you can also create your model to be younger or more mature!

The same goes for men, too!  Men can enter if they have a round belly, flat belly, what style their beard is, hair color, skin type, etc.

Try it out and see for yourself. The website is ModelMyDiet.com! If anything, it’ll entertain you for a little while. Enjoy!

Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year regardless of which teams are actually playing! I’ll be honest here- Super Bowl Sunday is one of the only days of the year I actually watch sports. It isn’t so much about the sports though– but more about the entertainment surrounding the game. Who can resist some of the funniest commercials, delicious food?

Anyway, whether you are into the game or not, having a party or going to a party, here’s a few fun and creative recipes you can make along with a few free printables to help spruce up your Super Bowl decor!

Have you ever wondered exactly what all those little symbols on care labels mean? By law, the Federal Trade Commission requires every garment have some sort of care method. As foreign as they may seem, it is beneficial to know what each of these 33 symbols mean. Knowing these labels will not only help you take better care of your clothing but also save you time and money- because you’re clothing will last much longer!

A few other things to keep in mind:

The dot system used to indicate the temperature range is exactly the same for all wash procedures, from the water temperature to the setting on your iron.

Most washable textiles are safe in some sort of bleach. If bleach isn’t mentioned or represented in a care symbol on the garment, it still can be used.

Care labels are required on all garments and fabric made into garments, with the exception of leather and suede garments, hats, gloves, socks, footwear, reversible garments and household items made of fabric (think linens, curtains, etc).

Can you believe it? Tomorrow will mark the first day of fall. That means it’s time to switch out the clothes in your closet- storing your summer clothing while replacing it with your warmer wardrobe.

This also is a great time to really go through your closet by reading care labels, removing the little fuzzies from last years winter coat and ironing anything that has been tightly compressed in a storage container for months.

We all know if you care for your clothes properly, they can last far longer than expected.  While living in a consumer society, we are expected to dash out and purchase something new the moment our favorite garment is in disrepair.  So let’s prevent the disrepair by maintaining our wardrobe correctly. Following are simple but effective tips:

Storing your clothes

It is so important to store your clothes correctly. By that I mean, not on the floor. While different fabrics have specific care instructions, it is important to keep your clothes away from moisture and preferably hung. So if you have a leaky basement, it might not be a good idea to store you clothes down there, even IF you are hanging them. It’s paramount to avoid damp and dank areas when storing clothing, so make sure to get your garments to higher ground.

Using the Perfect Hanger

Experts have always suggested that hangers rule over folding.  But did you know the type of hanger you use can make a difference? Using cushioned fabric hangers or cedar hangers over plastic is preferred because they are broader. This enables your clothes to have better support. I wouldn’t suggest wire hangers, even if you are cramped for space because they tend to stretch your garments and then you will get those weird marks on the shoulders that clearly say “I hang my clothes on wire hangers”.  Another great alternative for people such as myself who have small closets are to grab a few packages of slim line hangers.  They have a velvet-like coating to enable your apparel to stay-put and are thin enough to fit in the smallest of cubbyhole closets.

Wash Before Storing

If you wore something out for only a few hours and are about to hang it back in your closet. STOP! It’s not to your advantage to rehang worn clothing especially if you don’t plan on sporting it in the near future. First of all, it’s dreadful for your outfit but what is worse is that nasty little cloths-eating creature, Mr. Moth, is attracted to your natural oils that have been absorbed by your clothing.

Put Delicates in a Bag

Make sure you check the care instructions on the label to ensure your clothing is washer-safe BEFORE you even think about sticking your sequined trimmed cardigan into the machine. Even if the care label gives you the green light on the washing machine, I still recommend placing your garments into a specially designed bag made for delicates. Also, if you have the option, set your machine to wash delicately.

Beware of the Dryer

Similar to washing your delicates, always check the care instructions on your clothing before throwing them in the dryer. Wool should never even see the inside of a dryer because often times wool that goes in a dryer will come out with a new fragrance… ode burnta-fabrica.

Classic Ironing

Certain fabrics should stay as far away from an iron as possible. Again, this where those handy little care instructions come into play. And for goodness sakes, always double check your iron’s setting. Even though there is a high setting, it’s my practice to keep the iron on medium which lessens the risk of scorching my garments. Also, a little word of advice from my experience, never iron a stain! My mom didn’t tell me that ironing a stain only fixes it into the fabric and ends up appearing worse. I learned the hard way.. ha ha!

Removing Fuzz

D-Fuzz-It 2-Pack DFuzzIt Sweater & Fabric Combs

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get the little fuzzies off your sweaters and coats, above is what I use. You can get two for $4.90 with free shipping! (Click on the link above).

So there you have it! Reading care labels can surely set you in the right direction to the best care for your clothing. Remember, be aware of your settings on your washer, dryer and iron. Give attention on how you store your clothes. In applying these suggestions, you will be amazed on how much longer you clothes will last. But not only that, you will save money too. Nothing wrong with that!

I bet you never thought about creating nail polish out of eye shadow, or maybe you did. Either way, here is a fun tutorial on how to use up those old broken eye shadows and turn them into color for your nails!

This DIY nail polish will not only be your own perfect color that no one else will be wearing but it’s easy and quick, taking me around 10 minutes from start to finish (including sitting still to allow for my nails to dry)!

Supplies:

  • Clear Nail Polish. I used a clear top coat for everything.
  • Eye Shadow(s). You can mix multiple shades if you are feeling ambitious!
  • A small plastic or paper cup or something to mix your polish and shadow together.
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Q Tip

1. You’ll need about a teaspoon full of crushed eye shadow. If the shadow was already loose, that makes it one step easier for you. However, if the eye shadow was a solid color, then make sure you really get it smooth. If you don’t do this, then you’ll end up having lumps in your polish. I just used a Q Tip and that worked perfectly for me.

2. Add clear polish to your eye shadow powder. I just poured it straight from the bottle into my little eye shadow cup. If I had to guess, I’d say it would be about 25 drops of polish.

3. Stir your mixture together using a Q Tip with the cotton taken off. The mixture should become the same consistency as normal nail polish. You can always add more of the clear polish if necessary.

4. Using the brush from the clear nail polish, paint your nails as you normally would. My color ended up becoming matte, so I added the clear top coat to the eye shadow polish once it dried to give it a little shine and prolong its wear.

*Tip: You don’t have to worry about dying the brush to you clear nail polish a different color. Once I finished painting my nails, I soaked the brush of the clear coat in a little cup of nail polish remover, making it as good as new.

And above, the end result! This was a pretty easy and fun project…and a good way to re-purpose old eye shadows.

As a parent, I know how costly it can be to outfit a child. At the rate in which they grow, it doesn’t even make sense to purchase a nice outfit for a special occasion — because most likely, they’ll only be able to wear it once. Twice if you’re lucky!

I have a son, but could only imagine the cost of dressing up a little girl for pictures, events & holidays. I’m guessing a lot of mamas felt the same way. They want to dress up their mini-fashionistas in the most adorable clothes possible, but don’t want to pay the high price of a designer outfit that would only be worn one time.

Fortunately, that’s where Borrow Baby Couture comes into play! This online rental boutique allows moms to borrow designer clothing for their little girls sizes 9 months to 4 years. You borrow the clothes for 1 to 2 weeks at a time and then send them back.

You can find designs from Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Fendi, John Galliano, Stella McCartney and Versace… just to name a few.

So how exactly does it work?

Browse the outfits available, choose your favorite as well as the time frame in which you’ll need it and when you want the outfit to be shipped. Your items are then shipped to your door and when you’re done with the clothing, just send it back for free in the pre-paid box provided!

John Galliano All-Over Ruffle Dress This dress retails for $154, but can be borrow for around $23 a week.

Borrow Baby Couture saves you money, allows your little girl look amazing and you can constantly get new outfits for photos, special occasions and events.

Also, BBC has a clearance sister site where you can buy new and gently used designer duds for up to 80% off! Click here to view the private sale website by Borrow Baby Couture.

Here’s one of my favorites: The Bell Dress with Bejeweled Tank by Stella McCartney, $21.

Cold weather can be detrimental to your skin and hair. The dry, wet and bitter weather we experience here in Cincinnati can easily replace that beautiful summer glow you once had with not-so-desirable dry, itchy and chapped skin accompanied by dry static-filled hair.

With that said, here are a few tips to keep your skin and hair both in tip-top shape during these cold winter months:

Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Even on the coldest and cloudiest days, the sun can still be damaging to your skin because the UVA rays can actually radiate through those thick ominous clouds. And, UVA rays are known to be one of the most damaging things in the environment for your skin. However, applying a little sunscreen can aid in protecting that beautiful face of yours! So despite the cold weather, continue to use a light moisturizer that contains an SPF.

Wash your face!

We have all had those days where you don’t wear any makeup, thinking you probably can skip washing your face that day. But oil and dirt will still be there, which can cause you to break out. Just make sure after you wash you face, you again, use a moisturizer than contains some sort of SPF.

Use Skin Care Products.

They don’t have to be expensive, because after all, you’ve probably spent your limit on holiday gifts and everything else that goes along with the season. Look for active ingredients such as collagen to firm and oil and Vitamin C to refresh.

Avoid Tanning Beds.

If you are looking to add a little color to your skin, consider using a spray tan or a bronzing lotion. They have really advanced over the years, allowing you to get more of a sun kissed look instead of an orange glow. While tanning beds will definitely do the trick, they are not the best option for skin that is already dry.

Change up your Moisturizer.

I know, I keep mentioning moisturizers! But while a certain moisturizer may work perfectly for you in the spring and summer months, it may not be as effective in the winter. As weather conditions change, so should your moisturizer. Using an oil based moisturizer over a water based one works better in winter because the oil creates a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion. Many lotions labeled as “night creams” are often oil based.

As for your hair, well I don’t know about you, but mine seems to be a lot dryer in the winter, which can be expected. But going to the salon every week to get deep conditioning treatments can become both time consuming and costly.

Here are three recipes for creating your own hair treatments at home with very minimal ingredients that can help add moisture and shine to even the most static and distressed locks:

Mayonnaise Wrap Hair Mask Recipe

Apply 1/2 cup of mayo to your dry hair. Work into your hair really well either massaging it in with your fingers or using a large-tooth comb. Cover your head with a plastic grocery bag and let it set for about 15 minutes. Shampoo afterwards.

Avocado Mix Hair Mask Recipe

Mix together one small jar of mayonnaise and a half of an avocado. Smooth onto hair making sure to pay special attention to the ends. Again use a plastic grocery bag or shower cap and allow the mix to set for about 15 minutes. Shampoo afterwards.

Olive Oil Hair Treatment

Now this one I’ve tried and have used it more than once. There were multiple recipes I’ve found but I opted to go with the easiest. I warmed 1/2 cup of olive oil in the microwave for 20 seconds. After running warm water through my hair, I then applied the olive oil, then a plastic grocery bag and let it set for about 15 minutes before shampooing. My hair felt awesome after this treatment and still did a week later.

These are just a few things you can do to help take care of your skin and hair during the winter months. Also doing things such as wearing gloves and avoiding wet skin in the cold can really make a huge difference and keep you looking beautiful despite the not so beautiful weather.

Also, if you tuned into “One Chic Mother to Another”, here are the websites Holly and I discussed where you can sign up to receive boxes of skin care samples and beauty products. Subscriptions run from $10 to $21.

What do you do when you are desperately wanting a pair of glittery heels for the holidays and then come across a pair of heels in your closet that have seen better days? Just add glitter!

This DIY project was just too much fun and really simple with great results.

Here is what you’ll need:

An old pair of heels or shoes you want to turn sparkly. I had these BCBG shoes that I adored but overtime became all scuffed. I was to the point where I was either going to donate them or experiment and of course, chose the second option.

Fine Glitter ( I purchased 3 colors at Michael’s for $1.29 each)

Mod Podge ( I used the matte)

Paint Brush

Directions:

1. Mix your glitter into a bowl with the Mod Podge, adding more glitter than Mod Podge to the mix. You want to create a paste.

2. Using a flat paintbrush, start applying the mixture to the shoes. For the front part of the shoes, I used brown and gold glitter mixed together. For the back, I used black.

3. Allow the first coat to dry and then apply a second coat if needed. The true color of the glitter won’t really show until the shoes are completely dry as the Mod Podge is white and will dry clear, similar to Elmer’s School Glue. (See the bottom left picture above compared to the bottom right). Also see picture below:

I tried this project out several ways and I found the best way to apply the glitter to the shoes is to first mix the glitter with the Mod Podge. It seals in the glitter on so you don’t leave a sparkling trail behind everywhere you go.

And here are my “new” holiday shoes:

I’m super excited to wear these to some of the Christmas parties I have coming up!
