Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer confirmed Tuesday that he has signed a three-year contract to remain with the team, according to team officials.
Zimmer's contract was set to expire and he was reported to have been targeted for the defensive coordinator position in Washington under new head coach Mike Shanahan.
The Bengals hired Zimmer as their defensive coordinator in January of 2008. Before that, he held the same position for the Cowboys and Falcons.
His wife, Vikki, died at their home on October 8, 2009. Three days later, Zimmer was awarded the game ball by head coach Marvin Lewis after the team's 17-14 victory against Baltimore.
