A Dutch man once considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway has told a television station he dumped her body in a swamp, Aruba's chief prosecutor told CNN.

However, Joran van der Sloot's claims to Dutch station RTL-5 are "unbelievable," prosecutor Peter Blanken said.

Holloway disappeared during a high school senior class trip to Aruba in May 2005. The disappearance caused a media frenzy, and investigators made several missteps along the way.

Van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe were arrested and released twice.

RTL-5 said Tuesday it had "acquired exclusive material containing a statement by Joran van der Sloot" regarding Holloway's disappearance.

Blanken said RTL contacted him about the interview last summer, and the station showed the interview to him to get his reaction. He said his office and Aruban police investigated.

Van der Sloot was one of the last people to see Holloway and had made an earlier confession saying he dumped the body at sea.

According to the news report, the Aruban justice department said new inquiries have been made on the latest confession, but that "it soon became clear this statement is a mixture of lies and fantasy."

A spokesman for officials said if Joran had wanted to tell the truth, he would have named the exact spot.

Holloway's body has not been found.
