Whatcha say? If it's that Jason Derulo's career is hot and only getting hotter, you'd be right. He has already had huge hits with "Whatcha Say" and "In My Head," both released last year, and his eponymous debut album Jason Derulo is making waves.

Born September 21, 1989 in Miami, Florida to Haitian parents, Jason's birth name is actually Jason Desrouleaux, but he changed it to Derulo to simplify pronounciation for his fans. Since he was young, Jason has been musically inclined. He started performing songs when he was only five and at age eight wrote his first song called “Crush on You." He attended high school at Dillard Center for the Arts studying opera, ballet and theater. He then moved to New York to attend American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

With hopes of becoming a solo performer, Derulo started writing songs for artists including Diddy, Sean Kingston, Danity Kane and Cassie when he was 16-years-old. Music producer J. R. Rotem discovered Derulo and signed him to Beluga Heights Records and Warner Bros. Records.

Since being signed, Derulo has been a top-seller on the iTunes charts and smashed Billboard Records. According to Billboard, DeRulo accomplished a first on the Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart becoming "the first solo male to notch consecutive No. 1s with his first two entries in the survey's 17-year history."

His "In My Head" became his second leader in April 2010 after "Whatcha Say" had a four-week reign on the chart in November 2009. Only 10 previous male solists had topped the chart with their first entries and none of these followed with a second No. 1 in his second chart appearance.

Derulo is thrilled with the success he is achieving, telling Billboard, "It started with a dream. I share this honor with my fans and radio."

His success is also delighting fans - and mentor Kara DioGuardi, who with J.R. Rotem signed him to his label - and showing in his performances. He appeared on American Idol April 7 and even the show's crankiest judge, Simon Cowell, gave props to DeRulo, saying "well done" - which is heaping praise coming from Cowell.

He's found another celebrity fan in Lady GaGa, herself a darling of the pop world at the moment. "She said some really cool words to me," Jason has said. "She looked into my eyes and said, 'Jason, I've met a lot of talented people and seen a lot of talented people but I jsut wanted to let you know that you're special and you're a star.' That meant a lot coming from her."

If you too love DeRulo, don't worry - he is sure to keep the singles and hits coming.
