August 24 marks an important day in both Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren's lives; it's the day their nearly seven-year marriage came to an end. Nine months ago, Tiger wrecked his vehicle in his neighborhood during the Thanksgiving holiday, spurring rumors that his wife, Elin, was accusing him of infidelity and caused him to lose control of the car.

Things quickly spiraled out of control when more than twelve women came forward and confessed they had been involved in affairs with the PGA champion throughout the marriage. The controversy caused several of Woods' endorsement deals to drop him. Woods decided to take a five-month break from golfing and seemingly disappeared from the public eye, supposedly checking into rehab. During that time, Elin was barely seen and when she was spotted, she was surrounded by her two children, daughter Sam, 3, and son Charlie, 1.

After Woods' return to golf, his performance has steadily declined and he hasn't managed to finish any of this year's tournaments higher than fourth place. Could this be the end of both his marriage and his career as a pro golfer? Only time will tell, but for now Elin and Tiger released this statement to the public,

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," the two said. "While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us. Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern."
