Woohoooo! Our very first Give Back Tuesday of the year.

Today on the show, we were joined by Chris Fortin, the founder of Leelah Alcorn Memorial Highway.

Leelah Alcorn was an American transgender girl whose suicide attracted international attention. Alcorn had posted a suicide note to her Tumblr blog, writing about societal standards affecting transgender people and expressing the hope that her death would create a dialogue about discrimination, abuse and lack of support for transgender people.

After Leelah’s tragic passing, hundreds came together and decided to keep her memory alive by adopting and maintaining the stretch of highway where she lost her life, in hopes of bringing to light the issues faced by transgender people and so that these tragedies can be brought to an end.

Leelah wanted to change the world. Her final request attracted international attention across mainstream and social media. LGBT rights activists called attention to the incident as evidence of the problems faced by transgender youth, while vigils were held in her memory in the United States and United Kingdom.

So, how can you help?

Chris and his team always need volunteers to help keep Leelah’s highway clean! Click here to learn more 🙂

You are loved. You matter. Be you.

Thank you, Chris, for joining me on Give Back Tuesday today ❤
