If you listened to today’s show.. I hope you had some tissues near by 🙂
Missy and Mark Meinhardt started Sophie’s Angel Run after the passing of their 18 month old daughter, Sophie, in August of 2006.
On August 18, 2006, Sophie was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. On August 21, Sophie under went surgery to remove the brain tumor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. While in surgery, Sophie died. They buried her on her 18-month birthday, which was August 26, 2006.
After the sudden passing of their sweet baby girl, Missy and Mark decided they would be better… Not bitter.
They became determined to do whatever they could to prevent other families from suffering from this devastating diagnosis.
Through lots of tears and prayers, they eventually planned a memorial 5K walk/run in Sophie’s honor called “Sophie’s Angel Run” with the proceeds benefiting Brain Tumor Research at Cincinnati Children’s and scholarships at St. Jude School where Sophie would have gone to school.
Since the start of this incredible foundation Missy and Mark have raised over $720,000 for Pediatric Brain Tumor research at Cincinnati Children’s. They have also awarded several educational scholarships to students in the area.
Absolutely amazing.
This year, Sophie’s Angel Run will be happening on September 30th at St. Jude Parish in Bridgetown. They would love for you to come! This event is uplifting and fun. All are welcome 🙂
